Yesterday, I wrote about investing in your friendships, inspired by a friend's comment. Today, I want to talk about what happens when you do just that. I have numerous stories from my own life, but this isn't about me – it's about the people around me.
The Desi Moms Network grew beyond my expectations. There was a clear need, and I found my place right there. My desire was to create a village for every mom like me. I became deeply involved and actively sought out mothers who felt isolated.
Seven years later, it continues to evolve every day.
Within this network, a group of mothers discovered their tribe. They may not have met each otherwise, but they picked up on the cue, embraced my vision, and genuinely invested in their village. They began with small gatherings like playdates, coffee meetups, lunches, dinners, hikes, overnight stays in each other’s houses, and weekends away with other moms. They celebrated birthdays, both regular ones and milestone ones.
Recently, a couple from the group is expecting their baby girl. The husband did a surprise baby shower for her with the support of these friends – a testament to the strength of this village. I previously wrote about it in one of my posts.
Just last weekend, one of them hosted an Indian-style baby shower. It's remarkable how these mothers came together to plan, cook, and clean as a team. Each of them faces their own challenges with their children, but for that one celebration, they set aside everything else and made it perfect.
What do you do for your friends? How do you keep it going? What qualities do you value in your real friends?
A kanjiwaram for the occasion
